It was hard to know what to post next. In comparison to Josephine passing everything seemed a little frivolous. But the truth is that no matter how sad I am life keeps moving. There have been thing to plant, a garden to water andother animals in the house to take care of and a life that needs living.

Today we lost our dear sweet Josephine. At her first vet visit, after she was abandoned in our driveway, the doctor estimated her age at around ten years, already quite elderly for a large dog. She had advanced heartworms, the doctor warned me that even with treatment her life expectancy was only about 6 months. That was nearly eight years ago.

People would often comment that she was lucky to have found us, I have always thought I was the lucky one to have gotten to have Josephine. Today I am sad, but I look back on these eight years and I can’t help but be amazed at how many wonderful moments, how much love, loyalty and humor she brought with her. I can only be greatful.

When Pixie and Dust were kittens they were quite frightened of Josephine at first, so she would pretend to be asleep and allow them to work up their bravery.
